Amy Freeman has spent many years entertaining and educating audiences all over the U.S. Her satirical impressions of the average person making common life choices always brings knowing laughs from the audience. She addresses social issues such as sexism and diversity in a way that is easy to digest. Interjected are original pieces of poetry which reflect her humorous views of life as an African American woman.
Many of her thoughts are compiled in her first book of poetry, A Collection of Paper Ducks, published by Daylight Press. For this work she received compliments from Sonia Sanchez, “[The] poems are wonderful ! I like the ...images and stories.” Her poem, Sing Me The Song Of My People was published in ESSENCE Magazine (May, 1998). Her second book, Cache, is also available.
Amy Freeman is formally educated with an M.S. in Architectural Engineering. She is presently Director of the Minority Engineering Program at the Pennsylvania State University. Prior to that, she served as Director of Human and Cultural Diversity at Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania. Sharing her multi-faceted background, she has spoken to numerous audiences. She has developed and taught art workshops for children and has provided direction for youths in the juvenile justice system. In 1993, she received a commendation from the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission for her contribution to African American residents of that state. She has appeared on radio, television and at universities across the country. As a speaker, she emphasizes the need to learn as much as possible about others and the world around us.
